Simple Spring Floral Ideas with a Vintage Vibe
I’m sharing some simple spring floral ideas with a vintage vibe.
You will learn:
- What floral colors to choose.
- How to get the vintage vibe you love.
- What to add to your arrangement to give it that extra flair.
- What to use to put your spring floral arrangement in that’ll give a vintage appeal.
- Where to buy faux flowers.
I will be taking you around my home as I share my spring floral ideas.
I have some gorgeous floral arrangements that have brightened up each space in my home with a fresh new look!
Adding flowers is an instant boost.
They are a simple addition to your home that will keep you smiling throughout the spring and summer seasons.
These are the simple spring floral ideas with a vintage vibe.
Let’s get right into it!
First, the main tip for picking the right flowers is to match the colors already in your home.
This is a way to get a timeless look.
For example, my home is decorated with blues, greys, white, black, and tan.
So, to stay within my color scheme, I find off-white, white, green, or blue flowers go well with what I have going on, color-wise, in each room.
Sometimes, I will stick a gorgeous light pink rose in a vase or pitcher.
Like I did here beside my kitchen sink.
Your home will look put together when you stick to a specific color scheme.
So, to start, look around your home and see what color is prominent in your home.
Are there bold colors in your pillows or a specific piece of furniture?
No matter what your colors are in your home.
Be it red, pink, yellow, blue, white, green, purple, or whichever you love.
By staying within the main colors of your home, you can confidently find flowers at the store or online that will beautifully complement what you already have.
I have waivered on many occasions because, let’s be real.
Flowers of all colors are gorgeous.
This is especially true when you walk into Joann Fabrics, for example, and see all of those rows of flowers staring at you.
The moment I stepped into a flower aisle, I was enamored by their beauty, and all of my goals went out the window.
I’ve walked away with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, only to find they clash with my home and stick out like a sore thumb.
To avoid this, I have learned to have a plan beforehand and stick with it.
Some colors complement each other.
Like yellow against blue.
Or pink against sage green.
The color wheel is a great thing to have if you’re not sure what colors to choose.
Here is a color wheel that will not only help you pick the right colored flowers.
But this color wheel will help with decorating in general. The link is here.
To get the vintage vibe, certain flowers have an old-world look that is still popular today.
They are:
- Hydrangeas
- Roses
- Tulips
- Fluer-de-lis from France
- Peonies
- Chrysanthemums
This is a short list, as there are so many more to add.
Wildflowers are another old-world favorite like:
- Yarrow
- Sunflowers
- Cornflower
- Black-eyed Susan
- Foxglove
These are examples.
But when looking for faux flowers, this helps to narrow down what to look for.
Most of these can be grown in the backyard or a pot, as well.
Here are some ideas to add an extra flair to your floral arrangement.
Like I did here with this beautiful white hydrangea arrangement.
I put large white berries in the middle.
It adds more texture and interest.
You can also add:
- Feathers
- Small wildflowers
- Eucalyptus branches
- Leaves with berries
- Another flower in a different color
There are a variety of whimsical things you can add to give it a unique look!
Here is another idea.
A cute little white pom pom was added to the green mason jar alongside a small white hydrangea and eucalyptus branches.
And below, a different flower, like the green hydrangea, was added to a big white hydrangea stem.
Some wildflowers were also placed in the back.
It ended up looking gorgeous in our guest bathroom!
What makes a bouquet stand out is what you put it in.
Here are some spring floral ideas on what to put your flowers in that has a vintage vibe.
- White ironstone pitcher
- White Pfalzgraff teapot
- Large quart mason jar
- blue or green-tinted glass jars
- Crystal vase
- Small creamers
- Small mason jars with frog top
- Planters
I love old vintage things.
To keep with the vintage look of my home, I have kept to the list I shared above.
They give my home a cohesive and unified vintage look that I love.
If you love the vintage style, this will help you find beautiful vessels to put your flowers in.
Finding beautiful white pitchers to use to fill with flowers has been on my radar when thrifting.
Especially the white Pfalzgraff pitcher in the photo above.
Believe it or not, they are not that hard to find once you know what you’re looking for.
And spending a lot of money isn’t necessary when looking for a special vase, pitcher, jar, or planter.
Taking time to stop by a thrift store is so worth it!
You can find these items easily and for cheap.
In this video, I share a home tour with some spring floral inspiration.
Here are examples of vases I found at Goodwill and a thrift store.
On the left is a vast blue pitcher filled with green and white hydrangeas, and for interest, I put some wildflowers in the back.
In the right photo is a large white antique pitcher on my fireplace mantle.
This was $16.99.
I filled it with a bouquet of faux white lilac branches.
I love the wow factor when using big pitchers, planters, vases, or jars.
And the trick is to add an overflow of flowers.
Like an abundance of hydrangeas or roses, for example.
Adding eucalyptus or green leaves to the back of flowers can make a floral arrangement look full.
Not only is this a way to make your flowers stretch since they can be spendy, but it is also a great way to get that grand overflow look.
There are moments when a large bouquet isn’t doable.
Especially if you have a small area.
Using little creamers, teapots, or mason jars to put one single flower inside can have a beautiful impact.
Or, as I did here, I have a row of white hydrangeas in this 1920s brass vase.
It is unique because of its narrow side view.
And it is small.
This is what I mean about finding something special to put flowers in.
Over time, collecting whimsical things from a thrift store, eBay, or Etsy can give your home that desirable look we all crave.
Are you wondering where to put your flowers?
Here are some ideas on where to put flowers around your home.
You want them out of the way.
Especially when prepping for meals in the kitchen.
You can create a little vignette inside a basket, as I did here on our kitchen countertop.
They are confined, but when clustered with other vintage things, they are quite beautiful.
Place flowers on a hutch, buffet, or plate rack.
Putting them in a vase on a hutch, buffet, or plate rack is a great way to give a nod to the spring season.
Or laying them on the side and tucking them behind a plate, for example.
This is an easy way to keep them out of reach of busy little fingers.
Another idea is to lay some flowers on their side inside a dough bowl, as I did in the photo below.
I wanted to put this sweet little tureen inside the dough bowl, and it seemed perfect to add one white lilac branch and a couple of eucalyptus branches.
This turned out so cute and was so simple to put together.
A prominent place to put flowers is on an end table or console.
But this is where it can be a bit much.
For example, in the living room, there can be multiple end tables next to sofas and chairs.
Pick only one to two tables to place a floral arrangement.
This will give the eye rest.
You want to create a breezy feel in your home, and having too much of anything can make a room look cluttered.
So, keeping to one to three floral arrangements per room, depending on the size of the room, is that sweet spot to keep things to a minimum.
The dining table is another great place to put a floral arrangement.
But I have a tip for you that will be helpful.
Put together a floral arrangement that has a low profile.
I’ve been disappointed after spending time putting a bouquet together to have it removed because no one can see each other.
I learned that if I want flowers to remain on the dining table, they need to be low so our family can easily converse during meals.
Where to find faux flowers.
Finding faux flowers can get expensive.
Especially the real-looking ones.
But what I have found is it is best to wait for the big sales at Joann Fabrics and Michaels.
Which is usually at the end of each season.
The bad part, though, is that by the time the florals are 75% to 90% off, they have been picked over.
I know this too well.
So, I’ve learned to get to the store when the sale starts.
I hope these simple spring floral ideas with a vintage vibe help you to decorate with confidence.
