The Amazing Antique I Found
Today, I’m sharing this amazing antique I found on Facebook Marketplace.
Have you ever had those moments when something amazing happens?
I’m talking about the moment you find something on Facebook Marketplace. And it’s better than you imagined! Plus, it’s a bargain!
Yes, I had that moment.
My daughter, Brooke, was moving out into her first apartment.
She needed a headboard and vanity.
I needed a dresser for my dining room.
For weeks I looked at all the ads online, like Craigslist, OfferUp, and Facebook Marketplace.
You know the story.
Antique furniture is not cheap! Most of the time, it’s beyond my pocketbook to afford the asking price.
The moment happened on Craigslist!
I could not believe it!
With disbelief, I read and reread an ad for a three-piece set.
The ad described the set as a 100-year-old bedroom set that had been in the family since it was new.
The photos were making me scream inside.
The details and exquisite old wood made me want to jump with joy!
What was the asking price?
They wanted $195.00 for the whole set!
No way!
It could not be real.
I contacted the person via email. With no response.
By evening the ad disappeared.
I thought for sure someone else had bought it!
I showed my daughter the photos and how much they cost.
What a disappointment to hear it sold. For both of us.
It’s one of those deals that slips through your fingers. It was such a letdown!
The next day I went searching for something else.
It was a Friday.
It seems the weekends are the best time to look for things.
With a sad heart, I accepted the outcome and was ready to embrace whatever I could find.
I was on Facebook Marketplace online.
And guess what?
There was the ad, again, for the three-piece set!
But instead of Craigslist, it was on Facebook Marketplace.
I could not even believe my eyes!
Without hesitation, I called the seller.
I confirmed that this was legit.
It just seemed too good to be true. I asked her about the price.
The seller explained she wanted to sell it to a family who would cherish it.
She wanted to avoid selling to a dealer who’d turn it for profit.
I told her what I was using it for, and she said, come on over. I’ll sell it to you.
I was like, yay me!
I called my oldest daughter, Amy, and arranged for her boyfriend, who’s a mover on the weekends, as a part-time job, to help pick it up.
The next day we arrived at the seller’s home. The moment of truth was evident.
Was it as good in real life as it seemed?
It was not just good; it was better!
Not wanting to give away my excitement, I silently smiled with joy as we loaded the whole set onto the back of my son’s pickup truck.
My fingers felt the patina of the old-aged wood. I could pinch myself with disbelief.
I knew what a deal I was getting.
$195.00 was a steal.
I estimate it’s worth over $1000.00 for the set if it was sold at an Antique store.
It may be worth more with how pristine it all is.
My whole family was in awe of this find.
The best part was my daughter Brooke’s response.
She wanted something beautiful like this bedroom set.
The carved wood and intricate design are just breathtaking.
Sorry, I don’t have a photo of the bed and vanity. Believe me; it’s so yummy!
The antique I found has a central place in my dining room.
The purpose of wanting a dresser was to put all my linens, placemats, cloth napkins, and all the things to set my dining table.
As I set it up in the corner of my dining room, I was amazed at how beautifully it fit.
It was like it was meant for that spot.
