How to Live Your Life Without Assumptions

Note: This is a God-inspired message for the heart. I hope this blesses you as it does me as I read this. The photo of a clock represents time in our lives. We can live in freedom or stay in the lies that overwhelm the soul.
In this post, I share how to live your life without assumptions.
A long time ago, I came across a Victorian-era movie with a profound message.
It was called, He Knew He Was Right.
If ever there was a more disturbing storyline, this one was excruciating.
In this movie, the husband assumes his wife is having an affair.
But as the story is told, we, as the audience, know this isn’t true.
Yet, the story takes you through this couple’s life from when they fell in love to when this man took that sacred and beautiful relationship and destroyed it over a perceived belief that ended up being wrong all along.
This story is an example of how we can have assumptions or beliefs rooted in a lie.
Sometimes, it’s how we entertain ideas about a coworker or a friend.
Or how we see each other through lenses that are clouded by things we hear.
In my life, I have assumed many things about people and about circumstances.
Not truly understanding the whole picture and coming to my own conclusion to find I wasn’t right at all.
Have you ever done that?
There are moments when we come to a fork in the road. Will we go one way or the other?

These moments can define our life with such a profound impact that it should give us pause before we proceed down the wrong path.
But as the past has shown us, it does not always happen that way.
Decisions are made by one’s beliefs or desires that leave a rippling effect that cannot be changed.
And that is the ugly truth about assumptions and false thoughts and ideas.
There are so many examples in my life of how this has affected me.
Be it a stigma put on me by people who look at my life and come to a conclusion about who I am.
Or vice versa, where I’ve thought wrong about someone.
But today, I want to turn this boat around.
And I want to focus on another way that can point this ship in the right direction.
Because I know, as much as I don’t want to admit it, I can focus on the negative too long and toss things in my mind over and over again.
It can be like living in a nightmare to wrestle with fearful and negative thoughts.
We are influenced daily by the news we read or hear.

It is excruciating how humanity can turn on each other without a thought, affecting innocent people who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
This is life. And we all are a part of this roller coaster.
We’re connected whether we like it or not.
Because what one man or woman decides can traumatize a whole generation.
As sad as this is, there is one thing no one can touch.
There is one place in ourselves that cannot be changed by others.
And that is who we are on the inside.
You see, we were created for more than just living.
We were created to love and be loved.
And as much as people can try to control how we live, how we eat, our work life, and our busy schedules.
No one can control what goes on in our hearts.
That is why this subject is so important.
Because if we have control over ourselves, we can choose to live a life in truth or live a life in lies.
Examining our thought life is the beginning of living a fruitful and bountiful life.
Are our thoughts based on truth?
How can we know what we believe is truth or lie?
First, we need to really take an honest look at ourselves.
Not others. Not our neighbor, our friend, or family member.
It’s been sobering as I’ve become aware of my own inward beliefs.
The moment I looked in the mirror and saw myself for who I really was, I realized I’d been on the wrong path.
All of those nights of turmoil were for nothing.
And in the end, I am better off as I’ve believed the truth about myself because I know I am a good, loving, kind woman that can see the good in others.
I’ve had to step aside to let the true me come forth.
And this is my message to you.
Step aside.
Let yourself shine!
Because at the end of the day, no one can destroy that amazingness inside you but you.
Our whole lives can be spent trying to better ourselves and working so hard to be good enough.
We can carry a load on our shoulders about who we are when all along who we are is good, an outstanding person who is full of life and full of extraordinary things that others need to see.
As words can tear us down. And others’ beliefs about us can make us stumble.
We can put one foot in front of the other with every passing day, come out of the load of lies, and believe that our worth and value are not based on these lies.
That our worth is based on the foundation that we are beautiful, unique, one-of-a-kind, powerful and loving.
But that goes with the flip side.
Are we believing lies about people we rub elbows with?
Are our antennas up to seek out good or bad in people?
Only you can control what you think.
This has been something that has stabbed me deeply. I am responsible for what I believe.
I am responsible for the words spoken from my mouth.
What I say and do each day can change the course of life in others.
My view in life could be that one thing that ruins and destroys those I’m influencing.
You have weight. Your words, thoughts, and beliefs profoundly affect the people you encounter.

But how to counteract our trajectory is to turn back.
To be honest and see if what we are believing is true.
I want my life to be a good influence.
If ever before, we need to be trailblazers. We need people who will rise up and take a stand for good.
To hone in on the beauty of people.
For we all possess within us a greater worth than what we deserve.
If it weren’t for the true power of a true Savior, we’d all be damned to hell.
Because we do not deserve, in our own efforts, to be loved as we are.
Cause none of us can say we are perfect and do things right all the time. We do not.
But we can stand on the ancient Book that paints a picture of paths taken that brought calamity and trails of destruction.
It is this Book that points us to a greater way.
Time and time again, people fall on their faces in repentance for their wicked ways.
And again and again, that gentle hand of mercy comes down like a swoop and restores hearts and minds to be in His favor and to be seen once again as His.
He is not angry. He is loving, kind, and all the things we find ourselves lacking.
It is because of this we can rise.
With eyes filled with hurt, anguish, and fear.
We stand at a crossroads where one way is a path to the doldrum of the rhythm of this world, which is vastly corrupt and filled with everything evil and unjust.
Or we stand looking down a path that is so narrow that one cannot take unless they are surrendered to the One holding out his hand and offering His grace and mercy.
As long as we have breathed, we have heard these ancient stories.

Most of us know about the Bible and about God.
But how much different are we than the Israelites who saw God rescuing them from slavery with their own eyes and yet within no time were complaining that it wasn’t enough, and they wanted to go back?
How foolish are we to think we can do life without Him?
Yet, we do so freely.
We are swayed daily by opinions and listen intently to men and women whose only ambition is for their agenda and dreams that affect us all.
I don’t have answers for today’s dilemmas, nor can I control what people do.
But I do know someone who does.
And whether or not we go through a valley and have to face hardship.
Be assured that no one can take away our souls.
We are cradled in huge, loving hands that put his fingerprint in our lives. To look away is foolish.

If there was another way, we’d find it.
But we are lost.
We are filled with fear on our own.
We get overwhelmed and sick inside because what we see in others and ourselves is not pretty.
So, I come full circle.
It isn’t enough to face ourselves in our wicked ways.
Maybe these wrestlings, tossing and turning in the night because of lies are what we need to wake us up to finally take a look at what is real.
Right before us is an answer.
And right in front of us is a story we have heard most of our lives.
Is it enough to believe we’re good enough?
Are we capable of speaking words of affirmation and it sticks?
I would be a liar if I kept telling you you’re good enough and you’re amazing without mentioning why.
Because I know who really thinks that.
I know who spun you in your mother’s womb, created every cell, every unique part of you, and sees you as one of His greatest creations.
If we could possess the power to uplift ourselves, look in the mirror and correct the bad things inside us, we would do it without needing God.
It’s been tried.
And yet it fails because when the dust settles and we are asleep at night, fear comes back.
Anxiousness and all things that load us daily come back.
How can we be a good influence to others and think right without help?
If you find yourself wrestling, tossing, and turning in the night, feeling bad about yourself and wishing you were dead.
Or crushed because of the voices speaking your identity. I have a word for you.
The greatness of our God, in all of His power, has a word for you.
It’s the same as your heart desires.
He isn’t a God who lacks in decorum or lacks in the knowledge of man.
He knows, and He knows you fail.
And knows your heart and hears every word.
But yet, even in our sins, Christ died for us. Have you heard that before?
Man can crush the body, but no one can take our soul.
But we can give away our soul to an evil power that would gladly steal it to live in that place we don’t want to talk about.
Hell is not a word we want to discuss. But it is real.
And if by our own thoughts, we could dismiss this uncomfortable subject, then that would be an easy thing to do.
Oblivion seems like a safe place to be, but it is not going to bring freedom.
Freedom is knowing who God says I am. What does He say?

This scripture says it well.
“Psalm 139
For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7. Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there, your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…..
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18. Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
As was spoken thousands of years ago. It is spoken today.
To be someone that has influence.
To live knowing we are amazing and good enough.
Having confidence every day and living without fear.
To be able to believe good things about the people in our lives without assumptions.
Standing on an old but true story about a Savior that died for me.

Is to receive it. It’s to embrace it.
To hug that sweet cross that brought victory when Jesus died those 2000 years ago.
To know our stance and live out a powerful life.
But it comes with a price. It’s not for everyone.
So many people are walking away from the ancient Biblical story.
Today, I’m inviting you to come.
Maybe you’ve already accepted Christ as your Savior.
Maybe you haven’t.
But I’m inviting you to make a decision today.
To take a few moments and kneel, even if it’s in your heart, and ask the most amazing God to make himself real to you.
Maybe you’re empty. Maybe you’re lost.
Well, He is only a breath away.
If you haven’t already, you can say this prayer with me. And if you have, you can say it again.

Dear Jesus,
Come into my heart.
I ask you to forgive me of all my sins.
Come and live inside my heart. Make yourself real to me. Show me your ways. Show me who you are.
All of the evil I have thought or done, I repent and ask you to forgive me.
I receive your forgiveness and accept your love.
I turn my heart to you, God, and ask you to change me. Change my thoughts about myself.
Change the way I think about others.
Forgive me for seeing others with assumptions and beliefs that are false.
Help me to have Your eyes to see people the way you do.
Help me to be kind, loving, and generous with how I react to people.
Take away my shame. Take away my guilt and the hurts that are deep inside me.
Heal my heart, God. Heal those places in my mind and in my beliefs that are controlling how I live.
I want to live being loving. And apart from you, I know I can’t do it.
So, I ask you to come and dwell inside me and change me, In Jesus’ name.
Thank you for coming to live inside me. Thank you for putting your hand on my life, and I am trusting you right now to do in me what I can not.
I pray this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
It is that simple.
The gospel of Jesus Christ has been made so difficult by the dos and don’ts religion puts on people.
It’s not a religion. It’s not about following rules and regulations.
If that were the case, we are all doomed. I’ve lived under that, and it is not God’s heart.
What is true and what is real is God accepts you.
He is not a dictator or a boss that wants His own way.
Any time you can choose to follow Him or not. You are never made to do it.
You are not being told that if you’re good enough, then I will accept you.
No, you are accepted right now just the way you are.
And that’s why I can confidently tell you this truth daily.

Because you are good enough, and you are a treasure that is thought of by God with great admiration and joy.
For you were not a mistake and were born with a purpose.
And that is to glorify God with your life.
If you said this prayer above and are now a believer in Jesus Christ, I encourage you to open your Bible and read through the Book of John and the Book of Romans.
A famous scripture you may know but speaks true today is:

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For those of you who already know Him but your heart has strayed away. I encourage you to go home.
Go home and find Him.
It is never too late, and you are never too far gone.
For what He did before, He can do it again.
And He will.
Maybe something happened, and you blame Him.
Or maybe you’re sick and tired of religion and don’t want to have anything to do with it.
I get you!
But it isn’t the truth.
You are not forgotten or abandoned.
You are loved beyond measure. Treasured and the apple of his eye.
He is thinking of you and wooing you to come and start up that relationship again.
So, as I end this post, I am reminded that this life is just a flicker.
We are all going to die someday. And we all will meet our Maker.
But that is not enough. What is being asked of us is greater than that.
What if, by chance, you came across this message?
And if all you get from this is what I’m about to say, then that is enough.
And it’s to live your life well.
Don’t wait to change or to feel good inside.
Don’t let what happened to you as a child or words spoken to you by your spouse, mom, dad, or whoever dictate who you are right now.
Cause if ever before there was a time for change, it is now.
We need to rise up and take our stand as a people.
It’s not about politics or about agendas.
It’s about the Light that is shining in the distance, waiting for us to come home.
And it’s about the everlasting and the journey we are going to make to a Promise land that Jesus has prepared for us.
I’m going there. And I pray you are, too.
So, I leave you with these final words.
Go after God with your whole heart.
Don’t look back and run!
Run after those dreams you long for.
Did you know God puts those dreams inside us?
If He put them there, then He will make them come true.
That is what I stand on.
Lastly, believe the truth.
Run away from the lies.
And let all the assumptions and wrong beliefs fall away and be the amazing person you are.
Be encouraged today; you are enough!
And now, when you hear me say that to you, you will remember the power of my words come from a magnificent God that says that to you.
That who you are is not only enough but good enough.
Be blessed, my friend.
